Miss Sharon Jones: Daptone Queen’s story on the silver screen

Exciting news from the Daptone stable – I’ve been waiting for this film to drop since I first heard about it when chatting to Neal Sugarman when Sharon came to Manchester’s Albert Hall a while back.

Barbara Kopple (winner of two Academy Awards) brings the electrifying first lady of modern funk and soul to the big screen. Following Sharon’s 2013 battle with cancer and her return to the stage following the postponed release of the Give The People What They Want long player, the film looks like a fitting tribute to this powerful figure and the music which surrounds her.

I’m Still Here (streamable below) is a new song which plays over the end credits, and the soundtrack collects a range of the best tracks from her timeline with the Dap-Kings.
