The Man From Mo’Wax: vinyl, Blu-Ray and more

THE FILM / 30 AUG

Excitement is building for the release of the James Lavelle documentary, The Man From Mo’Wax. The film features interviews with DJ Shadow, Thom Yorke, Josh Homme, Robert Del Naja, Ian Brown, Gilles Peterson, Grandmaster Flash and the legendary Futura. It’s accompanied by the release of a soundtrack including art from renowned illustrator Ken Taylor.

Debut director Matthew Jones has tapped the personal video libraries of Lavelle and Shadow to assemble a narrative chronicling the rise of the Mo’Wax label and the relationship of the two including the birth of UNKLE and their seminal debut LP, Psyence Fiction. The movie promises to pull no punches in its depiction of the ups and downs of Lavelle. Mo’Wax, of course, trailblazed forward thinking sounds and provided inspiration for many others to follow in its footsteps, and certainly wasn’t limited to the ‘trip hop’ label it’s been traditionally lumbered with.
