RANDOM THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK’S TRACKLIST
Kicking off with a few Dilla-associated tracks, as I had the honour of playing at Spin Doctor’s night J DILLA CHANGED MY LIFE this weekend in Manchester – big up Juicy, Mr Thing and Scruff, Harry Love, DJ A-UP, Illum Sphere and Taste the D for laying down the cuts all night long. Not for a long time have I shared so much hip hop sweat with other heads. RIP J.

Daedelus has a new EP out on Ninja Tune March 21st, I’ve included the banging TOKiMONSTA remix here. The Trilogy track I know nothing about except it’s amazing. mynameisjOhn has this crazy EP out at stressdebtchestpains.bandcamp.com … Big up Darkhouse Family, new stuff forthcoming on Fat City Recordings.

YULT has his Animal Rights EP out soon and Inland Empire is the first track. The Solar Bears drop another lush soundscape with another choice remix.

Excellent to hear the return of Nostalgia 77 with the summer-tinged Simmerdown. Debruit released his version of Genuwine’s Pony this week in anticipation of his new EP, dropping in April. The Gucci Mane mixtape is free and features Hud Mo and Rustie as well as the Blessings, featured here.

This week’s anger management track is Deathface’s Gift of Fury, another free download from the folks at RCRD LBL. Ghost Hunter are from my hometown and current abode of Sheffield, so props to them. Ghostpoet is going on tour with Jamie Woon soon; Manchester date is the Deaf Institute same night as Mogwai at the Academy (with Konx Om Pax).

Manchester’s Murkage hold it down with In Da Jungle, which has been deservedly been getting recognition on a national level. Jump up. Kyle Rapps is funny. RJD2’s last LP has had a few remixes released, this is probably the bangingest.

Jeremiah Jae has the Rappayamatantra EP out on Brainfeeder March 21st. Depakote kills it for me everytime, and it’s good to hear someone flowing over his stuff. Shad is the man, and features on the Grand Analog tune. Emay I’ve heard of through his work with Star Slinger – his music is introspective and deep.

The Jazmine Sullivan cut is a good few years old but unreleased until now (via okayplayer). I Tone I look forward to hearing more from. El P and Nocando take us back to hip hop, followed by Nottz and Ivory Keyes.

Put Me On It put me on to Toro Y Mio through their WE LOVE series, and I downloaded this track from there.

Miqi O is releasing five EPs under the Untold umbrella/theme, French beat business. This is from the second EP, grab them from his bandcamp.

Creative Source’s You Can’t Hide Love is a standard, while Groovement fam Ghostface recently returned to form with Apollo Kids – this one chronicles some hip hop history ‘In Da Park’.

Looking forward to putting out a guest mix of reggae vibes from Manchester’s HELZ (Ballin’ On A Budget) later this week, so keep locked for that one.
