Nigeria 80 – Strut Records begins sequel series to Nigeria 70
There’s been a great rollout for this new Strut release today, as there’s a Dinked edition of this (limited to 400) available at the likes of Wax and Beans and Piccadilly Records. All tracks on this comp are reissued for the first time – check the track list below.

Following the global impact of 2001’s ‘Nigeria 70,’ which helped introduce rare Nigerian recordings to international audiences, ‘Nigeria 80’ continues the journey, unearthing a rich, restless, and wildly creative decade of music from Lagos to Enugu.
Released 11th September, the album highlights the rise of Nigeria’s independent labels and pioneering artists (including Onyeka Onwenu), connecting classic Nigerian sounds to modern Afrobeats touchpoints like Starboy’s ‘Soco.’
With all tracks reissued here for the first time, ‘Nigeria 80’ spans highlife, juju, Afrobeat, reggae, and early fusion sounds – from Victor Uwaifo and Nico Mbarga to Evi-Edna Ogholi and I.C. Rock.
