Preview: U-God // The Keynote Speaker
U God’s in the UK as part of the Wu Tang shows over here this week (with rumours that the full clan have turned up) and today sees the release of his newest long player, The Keynote Speaker. It’s his first one for RZA’s infamous (to online vinyl orderers anyway) Soul Temple imprint. It’s straight up funky hip hop with strings and horns abound for most of it, recalling much of the classic Wu sound.
Guests include two recent visitors to Manchester – Kool Kieth (who hit the UK recently for the 25th anniversary of Ultramagnetic MCs’ Critical Beatdown LP), Elzhi, who was recently here with Slum Village at Sound Control and Inspectah Deck, who hit Night & Day last year. Non-Manchester guests include Styles P and fellow Wu soldiers Meth (who missed the last Manc show owing to filming CSI), GZA (always remember to take the lid off the pen when getting your wax signed).
