Through highs and lows, Manchester collective MIND ON FIRE have kept the faith and soldiered on. This month has seen the test pressings of their first release on the MIND ON FIRE label see production, featuring tracks from some of the artists they’ve featured over the years. So its hard to believe but its been 6 years since we started Mind on Fire from humble beginnings and with one simple aim – to put on gigs and club nights promoting mancunian artists unrestricted by genre or scene. The collective has grown and developed, taking in radio shows, bar sessions, coach trips away and a whole host of other projects and collaborations, bringing some of the most exciting bands and producers in the world to Manchester, and hosting stages at some of the city’s most innovative festivals.
In 2009, we launched mindonfire.co.uk, a new home for all sorts of forward thinking music being produced in the city, as well as a blog discussing the cities most exciting events and collectives. We also started the Mind on Fire Band – an 8 piece live band born out of the various bands and producers involved in the collective – who have been performing at club nights across Manchester and further afield ever since.
2010 sees the start of Phase Three, the launch of Mind on Fire Records, and for our 6th birthday party we are showcasing all of the artists who will feature on our debut vinyl release which drops in November – LA77, xxxy, G-Kut, Neko Neko, gravearchitecture, Woli Wols, Zoir and Pareesa – as well as MOF’s resident DJs.
We will also have visuals from the legendary Cycloptic, who has provided the visual element to Mind on Fire events since our very first club night in 2004.
And we will have art from our good friends Onefiveeight, as well as free copies of the Hear No Evil, See No Evil Magazine and CD to give away, which we produced together last month…
So please come down to the newly refurbished Islington Mill to celebrate with us on Friday 15th October, hear samples of the debut LP, reminisce about the last 6 years but most importantly, talk about the future.
Entry will be free but donations for the performers will be greatly received.
