Zimbabwe marks British-Nigerian trumpeter, composer and producer Ife Ogunjobi‘s first solo release 3 years, following his 2023 debut EP Stay True.

“Zimbabwe is the start of a new sound for me. I feel like my identity as a person and musically is embodied in this track. It’s got the bounce and energy that resonates with me but still leaves room for personality and reflection. This was one of the first tracks I worked on with Gaetan Judd, and during the process, I feel like I really rediscovered myself.
I wanted to find a way to merge all aspects of my musical influences – Afrobeats, Hip Hop, and Jazz – in one because really, that is who I am. I don’t really identify with any one of those genres without the others, and I feel like this track brings it all together. I wanted the track to be unforgettable; the melody had to stick and carry the song. It had to be something that I could hear people chanting or singing at a party or festival. But underneath that, the beat had to bounce. I wanted to marry an iconic melody with a groove that was infectious.”
