New Music: Cartel Madras – Goonda Gold

The first single from the EP Age Of The Goonda. Sisters Eboshi and Contra form Cartel Madras and combine a variety of flavours for their ‘gonda rap’ (gonnda = south Asian slang for ‘thug’). The pair were signed to Sub Pop by Shabazz Palaces founder Ishmael Butler, were born in Chennai and raised in Calgary.

The EP is framed as ‘a manifesto for our times; an energetic, in-your-face, unabashed call to arms for immigrants, women of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, Desis (a.k.a. Westernised Indians), and outcasts and underdogs everywhere‘. It’s out 1 November 2019.
