New Music // Ghost Hunter: Equator EP

I grabbed the debut Ghost Hunter vinyl release, Island Barbados (find it on iTunes here), upon its release – I’ve just included the B-side, Evening Drive, on my mix for Generic Greeting which got me to googling them and finding this fairly new release.

I should have posted this last week when it came out, but frankly I was disgusted at how dirty the whole operation is. Buy it over at Juno and have a listen on Soundcloud. Lighter Crew is my fave, lovely little trumpet break in the middle of that one.

More from him here if you love filthy garage: Wrecipe for Wreckage.

Wobbly business from our pal The Colonel, who was recently featured on Groovement Volume One.

Renegade Brass Band return with another ‘Off The Record’, bringing you some of the UK’s finest talent from one of its brightest labels. We’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with all the artists on the bill tonight, and it’s a pleasure to bring them to Sheffield to see a Steel City party first hand! And as we’re not appearing at Tramlines this year, we thought we’d give you lovely folk a proper party!

Rodney P (Tru Thoughts)

Since his days in the seminal UK hip hop group London Posse, Rodney P has been widely regarded as the Godfather of British hip hop. Inspiring a whole generation of British emcees and producers by being the first to rap in his authentic London accent, he produced a homegrown hip hop/reggae vibe that is distinctly rooted in the UK.

2013 will see the release of ‘Gangster Chronicles: The Definitive Collection’, as well as new releases as a solo artist. His Record Store Day release ‘Success’ featured both Harleighblu and Renegade Brass Band, so it’s a real treat to get them all together on-stage to perform for ‘Off The Record’.

Harleighblu (Tru Thoughts)

We are delighted to welcome the Nottingham-based soul sensation Harleighblu to Sheffield for the first time! Signed to Tru Thoughts in late 2012, the buzz leading up to the release of her debut album ‘Forget Me Not’ in June 2013 has been huge, helped by early support from Radio 1′s Mistajam and two big releases for this year’s Record Store Day.

Having supported artists including Natalie Duncan, Quantic, George The Poet and many others, Harleighblu brings her full live band to The Plug, where she will also be support by members of Renegade Brass Band, who have acted as her horn section on a number of live dates and in the studio.

Diesler [DJ] (Buried Treasure / Tru Thoughts)

A stalwart of some of the best funk and hip-hop labels around, we’re delighted to have recent RBB collaborator Diesler along for our new night. Releases including ‘Diggin It Something Rotten’, ‘Keepie Uppies’ and ‘Tie Breakers’ all feature his unique mix of jazz and funk fused beats, whilst his live shows (including with full live band) have taken him all over the world.

He recently produced a remix of ‘Take No Chances, Make No Changes’ for RBB, which is now available on limited edition 7″ through First Thought Publishing.

Renegade Brass Band

A return to the homeland for RBB – after recent shows in Manchester with Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club, Birmingham and Leeds, and festival dates in Liverpool, Ireland and Croatia, we return for our only Sheffield date of the summer. And with new material, a new single and an upcoming album all locked in, it’s an exciting time for us.
