J. Cole caused a pleasant shock in the hip hop world by betraying the pathway of mainstream hits and releasing his new album ‘Born Sinner’. One of the most heartfelt hip hop tracks in recent years was ‘Let Nas Down’. He explained his feelings when producer, No I.D. told him nas wasn’t feeling his music, despite his talent. This remix is Nas’ response to the J. Cole track and reflects the positive side of hip hop that is often ignored.
J.Rocc is a hero to me. Any man who can juggle 45s with just his left hand is straight out of the god damn comic book. Considering this status, it is appropriate for everyone to gaze upon his record collection and feel mad envious. With great skills come great record collections.
If you didn’t know, I co-host a monthly underground hip hop podcast with Bedos (he’s in London today, but he’s going to Africa on Sunday, for a bit) and this is our latest episode. It’s packed full of brand new underground hip hop joints from up-and-coming artists like Sinitus Tempo, Curtis King, SkyBlew, 0hbliv, Stalley, Ground Up, The Mouse Outfit, Sparkz & more. Dope new hip hop from the next generation of hip hoppers.
I guess you could consider this to be a blend/mash-up, but that wouldn’t do this justice. Amerigo Gazaway of Gummy Soul, has been producing some dope music for a hot minute. He was responsible for the dope Kurtis Stanley joint ‘On My Mind’, which you can find on my Groovement mix ‘A Flower Was Born: Warp to World 2′ , and created the wonderful Fela Soul project from a year or so back. This is the first release from a similar project, which will be titled ‘Bizarre Tribe: A Quest to The Pharcyde’. The idea is, Amerigo takes the classic tracks sampled by Tribe, creates something completely new and then fuses it with some ill Pharcyde vocals. I’m looking forward to this release, as this type of project, when done well, can be dooooope!
It’s been a few months since we heard from Estate Recordings. Now that the hype around Skittles’ debut album has settled, it’s time for the crew to move on to the next one. This new video is from The Eyes (Fox & Chimpo) and is a straight up, summertime reggae track. Just in time for Moss Side Carnival.
