Benny Sings, Stones Throw Records’ newest signing but a veteran in the game, covers Drake’s Passionfruit from the More Life LP. The original is the track with a Manchester link, sampling a Moodyman DJ set from Cutloose at the city’s sadly missed Roadhouse club.

For the single, Benny re-presents Drake’s track in a more traditional way. Much more from him on Stones Throw soon.

Stones Throw say: Since 2003, Benny Sings has been releasing his own music and collaborating with artists including Anderson .Paak, Mndsgn, GoldLink, and Mayer Hawthorne. He was featured on Rex Orange County’s 2017 hit “Loving Is Easy” and had a breakout performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk series. He says of the “Passionfruit” cover: “Pop music has always been a goal of mine and I liked the idea of presenting this song in a more old-fashioned or conventional way.”
