On Wax / Danny Elfman: Batman Returns on Mondo
Not my favourite Batman score (that would be Elfman’s 1989 soundtrack, which cost me £14.99 on CD in 1990!), but a worthy follow up to one of the most defining films of my childhood. Batman Returns was an odd beast but looked beautiful, widening the legacy of the first film’s look into a more comic book and zany landscape. Elfman’s soundtrack mirrors the widening of scope, and is presented here by Mondo as a 3LP set brought to life by artist Killian Eng.
There will be 2000 copies, premiering at Mondocon with leftovers going to Mondo’s website. A 2LP version follows in later November, going out to record shops.
