On wax / La Mambanegra: El Callegüeso y su Malamaña
Although this record came out back in March, I’ve only just come across it flicking through the racks in Piccadilly Records. I’m gutted to have missed these guys performing live at Manchester International Festival this year, but haven’t taken the album off the deck since buying it on the weekend. It’s classic salsa but bang up to date and overflowing with modern influences, and there are only 40/300 copies left according to the Bandcamp. Proper caliente, and proper vital.
