Msafiri Zawose hails from the Wagogo people, a nomadic tribe famed for their musicality from the centre of Tanzania. They were made famous by Msafiri’s father, Hukwe, who toured the world as part of Peter Gabriel’s Real World in the eighties and nineties.
He’s teamed up with Sam Jones (Orlando Julius, remixes for Mugwsia International and Sarabi) to record the foundations of the LP over two weeks, developing a musically passionate relationship that they’ve continued since, bouncing back tracks between London and Bagamoyo.
Soundway describes the records as having ‘a borderless feeling, soaking up influences from across the globe – an afro-futurist journey that takes in dub, balearic, ambient and electronic vibrations alongside Zawose’s hypnotic playing and emotive, plaintive vocals.’
