Video: BENJI BOKO X MAXI JAZZ // Where My Heart Is + Video Comp
YOU can have a hand in creating the next phase to this video… see that white background? It needs filling in, so read more and download the video BELOW!. BENJI BOKO is a new signing to Brighton’s esteemed Tru Thoughts label, and this single’s out 23MAY11.
“Where My Heart Is” featuring Maxi Jazz is out on 23rd May, and is the first single to be lifted from Benji Boko’s debut album, ‘Beats, Treats And All Things Unique’, out on Tru Thoughts records in June.
To reflect the collaborative nature of the track Benji is looking for talented artists/graffiti artists/illustrators/animators to collaborate in the making of the video.
Here’s the plan:
Phase 1 of the video – featuring manipulated footage of Maxi Jazz slowly revolving against a white background – has been shot and edited – and will be launched on the Tru Thoughts YouTube channel on 20th April.
The ‘white background’ is where the artists come in – and we are seeking a handful of talented people to submit designs and animations – inspired by the track – to occupy this space around Maxi Jazz.
From the moment it goes online, Phase 1 of the video will be available to download, so that artists can play around with it, get inspired and work up ideas to submit for the second ‘phase’ of the video.
Phase 2 – filming the artists:
On the day of filming, the Phase 1 footage will be slowed down to stretch over a period of five hours and projected onto a large outdoor screen/canvas. While the individual frames of the video play out, the artists will recreate their designs on the canvas.
This footage will then be frame cut (sped up) to 3 minutes – so that the original Phase 1 footage of Maxi Jazz will be moving at normal speed, whilst the artists create the backdrop at superhuman speed around him.
Artists wishing to get involved need to be available for a day’s filming in June (date to be arranged) in Brighton or London, when they will need to be able to create their designs on a big screen/canvas – within a five-hour time frame.

Artists’ submissions have to be in by the single release date of 23rd May, and the artists selected for the final video will be notified in late May.
Please submit all designs and questions to [email protected] before 23rd May.
The finished video will be launched in June, around the release date of the album.
The video will be launched on the Tru Thoughts YouTube and heavily promoted across multiple media platforms – so while there is no financial payment available (eeek!) we hope this will be a fantastically rewarding experience – and valuable exposure for all artists involved.
We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
