Massive props to MR E for putting me on to Chilean rapper (rapera) ANA TIJOUX this fine Saturday morning. Ana’s family fled Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile in 1977, which led to her growing up in France (relocating to Chile in the mid nineties). Chileans were spread all over the place, including Mama Groovement who settled in Sheffield, UK in the same year.
She was nominated for a Grammy recently for her fifth studio album, 1977. Ana was the female MC of Latin hip-hoppers MAKIZA during the late nineties, before going solo in 2006. I’m going to dig a little deeper and go and buy all her stuff, see ya.
