LE FONQUE in Hamburg is a very special place. Here you can hear funk 7 nights a week, spun exclusively on vinyl, as it’s a true ‘Vinylbar’. I had the pleasure to play there ’til the very early hours a couple of years ago after supporting GIZELLE SMITH & THE MIGHTY MOCAMBOS at an arts event. The gentleman who geared me through the night was one AUTOMART, as it was his DJ slot I was intruding upon. It was so funky the police even showed up at one point, and we may or may not have played some obscure version of Shaft.
AUTOMART has a new mixtape out and it’s a beauty with a beautiful name: Poo Poo LaLa Jazz. Here’s some more info on him:
Martin Hillmann, aka “automart”, was born in 1977 and works and lives in Hamburg, Germany. He has a wide ranging sphere of interests in the music business. As a musician he has launched many projects in collaboration with great known and unknown artitsts.
Lovers of rare jazz and funky disco music can find automart djing at cosy, smoky clubs presenting his well selected vinyl.
Besides DJing he produces his own tracks of many different styles. His work, created from electronic music, handmade funk and jazz can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/automartaudio.
