We’ll be shining a light on our favouring emerging artists across all genres with a diverse programme of global sounds from\, and inspired by\, the music of cultures from around the world. \n\n\n\nNikitch & Kuna Maze are an electronic instrumental jazz trio synthesising broken beat\, footwork\, hip-hop and jazz. \n\n\n\nThe collaboration project between musician Nicolas Morant aka Nikitch and Brussels-based producer Edouard Gilbert aka Kuna Maze began when the duo met at the Chambery Jazz Conservatory in France. Before attending university to study jazz\, both artists had trained in classical music while growing up in the Lyon countryside. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis early musical development from Nikitch & Kuna Maze laid the blueprint for their musicianship today\, allowing the duo to gradually explore the new artistic languages of jazz\, and later electronic music. Both artists used their time at university to widen their horizons\, encountering other musicians from outside from classical and jazz music circles\, and as a result\, started gigging and working on projects beyond the conservatory’s curriculum. \n\n\n\nIt wasn’t long until the duo started making electronic music together – a genre that wasn’t popular at the conservatory at the time\, as retaliation. Born out of wanting to try something different\, and a mutual love of the same artists\, the pair produced their first beat on the train from Chambery to Lyon. Influenced by the likes of Flying Lotus (a pivotal artists for Kuna Maze\, who started producing after hearing his fresh sounds)\, as well as Roy Hargrove\, Thundercat\, Flako\, Dorian Concept\, Tigran Hamasyan\, Esböjrn Svensson Trio and Erykah Badu – the duo blend their influences from jazz\, broken beat and a wide pallet of electronic music\, into dance-floor package. \n\n\n\nhe duo perfectly syncretises their sound – with the vibrant colours of jazz\, mixed with the frenetic beats of footwork & juke from Nikitch\, combined with the granular synth-cosmict extures of Kuna Maze. This oscillation of jazz\, downbeat\, and hip-hop produces the duo’s signature sound\, a crisp groove-laden output\, that offers intimate and irresistible vivid textures to the listeners. \n\n\n\nPart of the new wave of musicians\, producers and DJs who are heavily influenced by the melting point of jazz and club culture – Nikitch x Kuna Maze draw parallels to UK counterparts such as Neue Grafik\, Nubya Garcia\, Joe Armon-Jones\, and fellow broken beat revivalist Kamaal Williams aka Henry Wu. \n\n\n\nMango Thomas \n\n\n\nTwist and turn through a dark world of unexpected whimsy and emerge laughing into the sarcastic sunshine. Their unique combination of tough jungle rhythms\, dub bass lines and wild guitar overlaid by references to their South Asian roots and militant high-speed rap has established them as one of the best live bands in the world. During their long and productive career Asian Dub Foundation have shared the stage with the likes of Rage Against The Machine\, the Beastie Boys and Primal Scream also collaborating on record with the likes of Radiohead\, Sinead O’ Connor\, Iggy Pop and Chuck D. \n\n\n\nThe story began in the early 90’s when ADF formed from a music workshop in East London at the institution which is their spiritual home\, Community Music. Their unique beginnings in a music workshop in east London marked out both their sound and their wider educational aspirations\, as showed by their early involvements with Roma Youth in Budapest\, hooking up with the legendary Afro Reggae in the favelas of Rio\, and setting up their own education organisation ADF Education (ADFED)\, not to mention their campaigns on behalf of those suffering miscarriages of justice. Building a solid live reputation in the mid-90’s\, particularly in France\, they eventually established themselves as an important worldwide force and particularly as an explosive alternative to the backward-looking obsession with britpop in the UK. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to their blistering live reputation ADF were one of the first bands to experiment with the now more commonplace live film re-score\, beginning with their rapturously received interpretation of the French classic La Haine back in in 2001\, which they performed to a sold out crowd here at Band on the Wall back in 2018. \n\n\n\nThey’ve continued to perform said project for nearly two decades\, taking in David Bowie’s Meltdown at London’s South Bank and a controversial show at the Broadwater Farm Estate\, scene of the events that led to the London Riots of 2011.They’ve also rescored George Lucas’ debut THX 1138 (with encouragement from Mr. Lucas himself) and they’ve recently revived their explosive live interpretation to the continually relevant Battle of Algiers at the Museum of Immigration in Paris. \n\n\n\nIt was a busy 2019 for Asian Dub Foundation with the long-awaited reissue of their Mercury Prize-nominated 1998 classic Rafi’s Revenge. The reissue garnered ecstatic reviews\, all of which agreed that the sound and the message that ADF threw down in 1998 is as relevant now as it was then-perhaps even more so. \n\n\n\nSo it’s timely that in 2020 the band released their nineth album “Access Denied” which finds them as uncompromising as ever. The album showcases ADF in full spectrum mode from the tough Jungle Punk sound of “Stealing The Future” and “Mindlock” through to the orchestral meditation of “Realignment” and the reggae lament of the title track. \n\n\n\nWith guest spots from Greta Thunberg\, incendiary Palestinian shamstep warriors 47 Soul\, Chilean revolt’s rap main figure Ana Tijoux and radical UK comedian Stewart Lee\, Asian Dub Foundation continue their sonic opposition to the powers that be and “Access Denied” kicks harder and higher than ever. \n\n\n\nOn the sunrise of 2021\, at the very moment that UK left the EU\, Asian Dub Foundation found themselves at No.1 on the new official sales and national download chart. \n\n\n\nThe single “Comin’ Over Here” feat.
