SUMMARY:Jaubi & Tara Lily
DESCRIPTION:Read about new single Forgive Me here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStep into a world of transcendental musical fusion with Jaubi and Tara Lily \n\n\n\nPoster by Taxi Cab Industries who also did the South Asians Against Apartheid badges. \n\n\n\nHailing from Lahore\, Pakistan\, Jaubi are an instrumental outfit who defy genre boundaries with their fluid and dynamic sound. The band – made up of Ali Riaz Baqar (guitar and composer)\, Zohaib Hassan Khan (sarangi) and Kashif Ali Dhani (tablas and percussion) – embody the spirit of “whatever/whoever” crafting sounds that resonate deeply and universally. \n\n\n\nJaubi perform alongside Tara Lily\, a South-London\, British Bengali musician whose eclectic style stitches together R&B\, jazz\, electronic\, and traditional sounds – creating something entirely her own . The rising star – who doubles as a classically trained jazz musician – has expanded on her sound recently\, working with collaborators like Theo Croker and King Krule. \n\n\n\nJaubi unveil their highly anticipated sophomore album A Sound Heart in summer 2024 via their own imprint\, Riaz Records. Inspired by a verse from the Holy Qur’an (26:89)\, A Sound Heart explores the concept of a spiritually healthy and content heart\, rooted in love and sincerity. \n\n\n\nJoin Jaubi on their incredible musical journey\, where meditative ragas blend seamlessly with Herbie Hancock-esque motifs\, contemporary melodies intertwine with the intricate sounds of the sarangi\, and the earthy rhythms of the tabla create a rich tapestry of sound. \n\n\n\nThis performance\, presented in collaboration with Dialled In\, celebrates the depths of South Asian artistry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoost the signal:\n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp

SUMMARY:Kessoncoda / YES
DESCRIPTION:West London’s Kessoncoda are the duo of drummer Tom Sunney and keyboardist Filip Sowa. Standing firm between acoustic tradition and electronica\, they are founded on a unique blend of melodic ostinato-laced piano and unwavering drums. Drawing on their array of musical interests\, Filip and Tom take influence from rock\, electronica\, ambient\, breakbeat and soundtracks for film and artists such as Squarepusher\, Radiohead and Clark all hot-housed in their unique studio set-up\, a shed at the bottom of Tom’s garden. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLike former and present Gondwana Records label mates such as GoGo Penguin and Portico Quartet there’s something strongly cinematic about Kessoncoda’s music\, like a narrative arc which unfolds through different themes and moods\, with an ebb-and-flow of intensity\, as breath-taking swells of melody burst into being\, eventually to resolve in a wondrous climax. \n\n\n\nTheir debut album ‘Outerstate’ is out now. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoost the signal:\n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp

SUMMARY:UNKLE / Gorilla
DESCRIPTION:Lavelle: “With the Rōnin Tour\, the UNKLE live experience is reimagined within the context of a club environment rather than a traditional live show. This allows us to be creative and experimental in many different ways. \n\n\n\nThe Rōnin shows are layered\, collaged and sampled to create a seamless UNKLE soundtrack experience\, drawing influences from the past\, present and future of UNKLE. The project started as a DJ-based performance and we aimed to push the limits of what we thought DJing was at the time\, incorporating visual elements along with the music. We want people to dance\, celebrate and have a great time.” \n\n\n\nOCTOBER15 – Leeds\, Project House16 – Glasgow\, Saint Luke’s17 – Liverpool\, Arts Club18 – Manchester\, Gorilla19 – Birmingham\, Zumhof21 – London\, Here@Outernet \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoost the signal:\n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp

SUMMARY:BLK ODYSSY / Deaf Institute
DESCRIPTION:BLK ODYSSY project is pushed by liberation. On his first album under this new moniker\, titled BLK \n\n\n\nVINTAGE\, BLK ODYSSY―born and raised in Plainfield\, NJ\, based in Austin\, TX― dives into his personal \n\n\n\nhistory as a Black musician and the world he’s grown up around. It’s an album deeply informed by \n\n\n\nindividual experiences but applied to the plight of Black Americans everywhere. Even when the \n\n\n\nalbum chooses smooth vibes and laid back lyrics in favor of overt activism\, there’s a philosophical \n\n\n\nbent that inspires BLK ODYSSY’s work. BLK VINTAGE is inspired by a few key moments and artists. \n\n\n\nThere’s the death of BLK ODYSSY’s brother\, who was killed at the hands of police officers while BLK \n\n\n\nODYSSY was living in New Jersey. It’s the seminal moment of BLK ODYSSY’s life\, the moment he was \n\n\n\nforced to become an adult and reckon with the harsh reality of being Black in America. It fuels \n\n\n\neverything he does\, especially his activism. \n\n\n\nAfter making a name for himself as an Americana musician\, BLK ODYSSY decided to ditch the \n\n\n\npopularity he gained in favor of creating music that would reflect his own experiences and \n\n\n\nworldview. The result is BLK ODYSSY\, and this first project\, BLK VINTAGE\, moves with the urgency of \n\n\n\nan artist finally realizing their true sound. “I want to create something that will be culturally impactful \n\n\n\nfor my people. I want to do something that is impactful on a larger scale\, something that is for groups \n\n\n\nof Black people across the country.” There’s “1980\,” which slinks with the rich funk-soul of artists like \n\n\n\nAnderson .Paak and Knxwledge\, but BLK ODYSSY’s half-rapped cadence is wholly unique and utterly \n\n\n\nintoxicating. The moments of levity hit equally as hard as the work refracted through the trauma BLK \n\n\n\nODYSSY has experienced. Still\, though\, BLK ODYSSY has the rare ability to present multiple sides of \n\n\n\nhimself. “Hang Low” is a sultry love jam\, strutting with velvet harmonies and a bass line straight out \n\n\n\nof the Pino Palladino school of indestructible grooves. \n\n\n\nThe good times occasionally give way to introspection and remembrance\, though. The death of BLK \n\n\n\nODYSSY’s brother makes its way into the powerful “Drinking Good\,” but he balances it with a desire \n\n\n\nto inspire the next generation. “My goal is to connect with the black youth\, and my goal is to connect \n\n\n\nwith my people and speak to them on a level where we can stop suffering from happening\,” he \n\n\n\nexplains. “There’s only so much we can do for the dead. This record asks: ‘How can we stop this from \n\n\n\nhappening again?’” Though the music is deeply tied to BLK ODYSSY’s own identity\, he speaks a \n\n\n\nuniversal music in his language\, one easily relatable for those that want to see a better world. \n\n\n\nNeo-soul artists like D’Angelo and socially conscious MCs like Kendrick Lamar are clear touchstones\, \n\n\n\nbut BLK ODYSSY also takes cues from the celebratory funk of Parliament who also came from \n\n\n\nPlainfield\, on tracks like “Funketology.” “All the musicians that I grew up with are relatives of \n\n\n\nParliament members. We grew up in that culture\, it inspires who we are\,” explains BLK ODYSSY. This \n\n\n\npotent combination of politically-charged street anthems\, party-ready funk jams\, and top-down\, \n\n\n\nhead-nodding beats makes BLK VINTAGE a sterling debut and one of the most powerful and timely \n\n\n\nreleases of the year. BLK ODYSSY speaks to his predecessors\, but the new concoction is all his own. \n\n\n\nIt’s a triumphant testament to Black power\, a message to the kids that look like him that there’s \n\n\n\nsomeone in their corner. “The Black youth has been poisoned numb because of the shit we have to \n\n\n\ndeal with\,” BLK ODYSSY explains. “I want to speak to our experiences and let people know it’s okay to \n\n\n\nshed that layer and really\, truly feel.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoost the signal:\n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp
