Groovement Premiere / Ishmael Ensemble: Tunnels

This session is filmed in what was the back room of “The Croft”, home to Pinch’s legendary Wednesday night dance “Dubloaded”. It was in this room I first heard the likes of Ben UFO, Kode9 & Martyn, all of whom opened my ears to a whole new world of sounds that left a lasting impact on the music I make today. It only felt right to return to this influential space 10 years on to film “Tunnels”, our ode to that particularly fertile period in Bristol’s musical legacy.

– Pete Cunningham

Groovement is very happy to premiere the video for Ishmael Ensemble’s Tunnels, as heard on Gilles Peterson’s UK jazz special at Maida Vale on BBC 6Music. Pete Cunningham’s Ishmael project has expanded to an Ensemble, with the Severn Songs series their most ambitious recordings yet.
This is the second release, a callback to his formative years in the Bristol scene. The b-side is the more introspective First Light.
Have a read of an interesting interview with Pete over at Band On The Wall.
