Ahmed Malek x Flako: The Electronic Tapes on Habibi Funk
The Habibi Funk Records label digs Arabic funk and jazz from the 1970s and 1980s, and recently made Okayplayer and the like with their mix of music from countries tied up in Trump’s ‘Muslim ban’.
This new compilation, limited to 200 copies on wax and hence already gone, is the end product of the label sifting through a box of master tapes from Ahmed Malek’s family, documenting his experimentation with synthesisers and electronic music.
Flako has chaired THE ELECTRONIC TAPES project and re-produced the tracks, with the aim of splicing together 2 hours of music that sounds like something Ahmed himself would have released had he not passed away.
