Soundtrack: The Girl With All The Gifts by Cristobal Tapia De Veer

The newly-released soundtrack to the film adaptation of M R Carey’s acclaimed novel is by none other than Utopia / Humans (and Jamaica Inn!) genius Cristobal Tapia De Veer.

I’ve got an affinity with this gentleman and am always on the lookout for new work from him, as the origins of his life lie in the military coup of Chile in the 1970s, similarly to mine. Born during that period in Santiago, his parents fled to Paris. Eventually he ended up in Montreal, where he still lives.

A die-cut, gatefold vinyl release is forthcoming in February, when the film’s out, but for now cop the digital from Bandcamp or iTunes from Mondo Music. Jay Shaw has contributed another iconic design for the cover. It’s full of Cristobal’s typically majestic eeriness and ramps up the vocal samples, with Kim Neundorf on voice duties. This is his first movie music, but also check out the Douglas Adams-originated Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on Netflix for some more of his current work.

giftsYou’ve still got a chance to cop the book before the film comes out too. Check the trailer for the movie below:
