Out now. Cover by Pete Obsolete.

And the spelling of Dubbul O’s name becomes official with his first proper solo release, twelve strong tracks produced by Manc-based powerhouse Pro P of The Bluntskins. You might already be familiar with Dubbul O’s flow from his collaborations with the Mouse Outfit…

… or even the snake-charming Spooky Caravan track with Kydro:

But this is the extended real deal – given an album’s worth of material to play with and releasing on young Manc hub Room 2 (find out more about them in Ellis Meade’s recent interview), Dubbul O flexes his lyrical muscle admirably and consistently over some sharp production – beats that betray a wealth of influences without sounding overly derivative. Pro P has a great ear for atmosphere and doesn’t overuse some great samples on here, when they easily could have been (that brass in Children of the LOA!).

The Mouse Outfit have finally made the rest of the country (and lest we forget, ‘Murica) stand up and pay attention to the new wave of Manchester hip hop, peppered with a taste for the classics and an ear for bass. Dubbul O being featured on Escape Music will have done him nothing but favours, but he certainly stands his ground on a solo tip here.

His delivery is always on point, his voice an enticing concoction of velvet on gravel – he kills it live, has little ego where his head should be massive, and most importantly has a thirst of good music. Omega is dark, funky, tight and well-constructed, a fitting first album in what should be a long career.
