IKONIKA album reactions: Contact, Love, Have, Want (Hyperdub)

I’ve got quite a soft spot for Ikonika in terms of the intelligent way she promotes 8-bit style, quotes Streets of Rage and Tekken while unashamedly sampling metal drums (as in the genre, like). This week she released her debut LP on Hyperdub; here’s a round up of some reactions. Go out and buy it and make your own mind up. Ikonika’s Facebook.

IKONIKA
CONTACT, LOVE, HAVE, WANT
(HYPERDUB)

Nice little track-by-track introspective on the album over at URB.

Their review. “A narrative that travels in an audible world of mystery, glitch, and memories of the 8-bit era in between beats that will stay in minds for years to come.”

Demonstrating their hipness, the BBC review.

Resident Advisor give it a 4. “A superbly strong and relentlessly inventive debut album.”

Dusted come forth with the polar opposite in opinion, arguing a lack of depth.

Make up your own mind; it’s available now.
