Video Premiere: Resonators’ Papa Daddio

Resonators have carved their own niche in the UK dub scene, their third album Imaginary People cementing their reputation as ‘truly original’ (David Rodigan on that quote!) players.

Groovement is very happy to present the video premiere of the bittersweet Papa Daddio, out digitally on 24 March from the seminal Wah Wah 45s. You can buy the album on wax from the band’s Bandcamp right here.

Alex Forster, The director of the video, delves deeper into its themes:

There is a darker subplot to the video that brings it to very current relevance – America, the paternal nation gone wrong. Back in the 90s the USA was often seen as the promised land, the American dream … and yet the radio in the background talking of the Iraq war hints at its downfall.

We know with hindsight how much socio-political damage was caused, and the flags in the video link the UK and US in the atrocities. The glossy Mikey Mouse is juxtaposed by a laughing, fighting turtle, and a police car. At a stretch, even the smoking on the airplane reference suggests an underlying self inflicted toxicity. The ugly shadows of capitalism are now coming to the foreground, and in the Trump era most of the world is waking up to it.

The video highlights the analogous love hate relationship of the world towards the USA and a child towards their father.
