Spoek Mathambo Manchester takeover 12/13 March inc showing of FUTURE SOUND OF MZANSI

Rapper and producer Spoek Mathambo is in Manchester for two nights this week, first with his crew Fantasma at Band on the Wall, and then DJing following a showing of his film (plus Q&A) at Islington Mill on Friday night.

Fantasma is a five-deep collective who weave modern electronic sounds together with ‘traditional Zulu maskandi music, shangaan electro, South African house, psych-rock and punk to form a unique, original and fresh hybrid’. THIS EVENT IS FREE!

Friday night goes even deeper with a showing of the film Future Sound of Mzansi, chronicling South Africa’s musical landscape 20 years into its democracy presented through the eyes of Spoek Mathambo, directed by him and produced by Black Major.

A Q&A with Spoek follows the screening, and then of course an afterparty ends proceedings.

This event, put together by Oh Bachannal and Bianca A Manu, is precisely the sort of unique event Manchester should be known for. Hats off to the organisers!

Read a great interview with Spoek here at Shuf Sounds.

Come prepared for 4 hours of South African House, Bacardi House, Kwaito House and hyper-speed Shangaan Electro style. We’re bringing South Africa to Manchester in full force – you can thank us later…
