The Beat Junkies are everywhere because they can do it all. With countless musical accolades including five years worth of world championship DJ titles, over a decade on primetime mixshows for Los Angeles’ top radio stations, and providing production & DJing support for some of hip-hop’s most notable acts including Dilated Peoples, Madlib, Cypress Hill and the Visionaries, the Beat Junkies have profoundly influenced the international music scene and DJ community since the early 90’s.

This year, the Beat Junkies celebrate their 20th anniversary with a world tour modeled on their legendary Los Angeles parties that turned the Knitting Factory into a legendary epicenter of Hip-Hop. They’ve shown themselves and the world that there’s no boundary to DJing and they represent this knowledge in everything that they do because that’s the Beat Junkie Style.

According to J.Rocc, co-founder and mastermind of the crew, the Beat Junkies were answering a call fueled by a love for their craft. In 1992, he and his counterpart Curse initiated some of the most revolutionary and foundational forces in turntablism to change the way the world heard DJing and hip-hop forever.

Beginning with J.Rocc, Curse, Rhettmatic, What?!, Melo D, Havik, Tommy Gun and Icy Ice, one of the first DJ supergroups was formed and dubbed the Beat Junkies. This union would transform turntablism from a hobby into an art and a way of life. From that pressure cooker of technical skills, their style was born – a funked-up display of beat-juggling and scratching virtuosity that could simultaneously blow minds and pack dance-floors. The list of names kept growing: Babu, Symphony, Shortkut, D-Styles and Mr. Choc and through the massive pull of their influence, they snapped up unrivaled talent while pioneering a total shift in turntablism.

Through the Beat Junkies 20 year dynasty of DJing they turned one element of Hip-Hop into it’s most technical art.
