Following the closure of the shop proper a few months back, the time has come for the online service itself to up sticks and head south to Landan following the shop’s purchase by Jazzman Gerald. It’s official, Manchester’s Fat City Records moved to London today to embark on a brand new life in the big smoke.

As I’m writing this it’s all on it’s way south to the capital in the back of new owner Jazzman Gerald’s van (Jazzman Records) lock stock and barrel, and that’s not a real picture of the van by the way.

However, if your a regular online shopper reading this and starting to sweat, then don’t panic. In terms of trading, nothing here has really changed at all apart from the shops location which in the long run, being based in the capital would be far better and there’s gonna be some great new flavours and additions to the site in the next few week too.

The shop was originally set up in the early 90’s as a small record stall by Dave Walker, Ed and Mark Rae (Rae & Christian) in Manchester’s famous Afflecks Palace arcade and as Mark re-located to L.A and Ed went to London, Dave took over as lead man to run the opporations full time and traded here on Manchester’s Oldham Street for the best part of 16 years working tirelessly building up a strong reputation, not only in Manchester but online through-out the world serving hungry vinyl junkies with the cream of upfront releases.

Fat City has now become one of the top three leading online music stores in the UK.

Dave decided that the time was finally right to move on to new ventures and spend more time with his young family. So.. With the relocation in mind, Gerald now at the helm and new blood onboard Fat City is only gonna become bigger and stronger than ever, which is a good thing!

I personally spent some great years working at the shop, plus some stressful ones too. However, i made some brilliant friends along the way and will leave with fond memories. Long live Fat City and best of luck in the future to Gerald and the guys!

*sniff*

But what about Friends and Family? I hear you cry… the rumours are that F&F will return, albeit not as a monthly party, more an irregular seismic event. Keep your eye on here. Fat City Recordings continues!
